Our reasoning & expectations behind this.
\n<\/strong>It was always our intention to install fairly large leisure batteries (and eventually a lithium system).
\nHowever, space is always at a premium, so mounting them in an underslung box seemed a good idea despite the extra work needed; it also helps to keep the weight as low as possible. Putting the starter battery there as well frees space in the van, which<\/span> we plan to use for the fridge\/freezer compressor. (starter battery has now been moved to the engine bay<\/a>) <\/em><\/span>We also intend to fit a second box, but this will require a bit more work than the first, as the pipework & handbrake will need rerouting, plus a cable gear linkage will need to be fabricated and fitted, and probably a few other bits as well, but we will get there.<\/p>\n

Our conclusions.
\nPros.<\/em><\/h6>\n

Larger batteries can be used.
\nBattery weight is lower, so a lower centre of gravity.
\nA reasonable amount of extra storage. (even more with a lithium system).<\/span>
\nStorage is suitable for heavier, seldom-used items.
\nAdditional storage or usable space where batteries were.
\nThe storage is accessible from within the van.
\nStorage is not obvious.
\nA small amount of weight distribution is possible.<\/span>

Cons.<\/em><\/h6>\n

Quite a lot of work to install. (especially the second box).<\/span><\/strong>
\nWhirring and pipework need rerouting. (for the second box).
\n<\/strong>The right-hand box requires a different hand brake linkage system.<\/span><\/span>
\nThe Full-size right-hand box requires a different gear linkage system.
\nBatters and boxes are vulnerable to possible damage.
\nLoss of some ground clearance.
\nSome additional weight.<\/p>\n
