Spilled over from our caving exploits but it seemed a convenient place to put it.
\nWe have been modifying some filming lights to make them easier to transport (when caving) and more in line with the way we tend to use them. A few photos, for now, and more, as well as an explanation as the job progresses.        <\/header>\n

Although we tend to use them in pairs, we find the GoPro mount more of a hindrance than a help, especially when the lights are packed for transport.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

So they have been cut off,
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

and sanded smooth.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This will allow the lights to be hinged together in pairs.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Two are done, and ready for a hinge, with more to do, ( 8 sets now all done, (16 lights)).<\/span>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

Gaffer tape test hinge, (successfully used on a filming trip underground)
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

The first eight of the lights (four sets) with gafertape hinges completed.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\"\"<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Four of the lights (two sets) will fit nicely in a neoprene lens bag, with no lumpy bits sticking out and getting snagged.  
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

The plastic clips on the bags have been replaced with cord loops to hang on a carabiner on our belts. This should make carrying the lights when setting up easier.

The next part of the job is to replace the gaffer tape hinge with a permanent one and a tripod mount point.

Long-term, it would be good if we could make them remotely controlled. (working on this).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nEasy to carry about, attached to a belt when setting up shots.
\nReasonably robust units.
\nWaterproof<\/em><\/p>\n

Cons.
\n<\/em><\/strong>More work.<\/em>
\n<\/em><\/strong>Single batteries (18650) that can’t be changed in use.
\nNot remote-controlled. (yet). <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
