Spare wheels

Our expectations & reasoning behind this.
Having a spare wheel seems to us to be a no-brainer, and frankly, (given the current state of the roads), it is surprising it is not a compulsory feature for all vehicles.
So the question is, for off-road vehicles, how many?
For most of the time, one should be sufficient, but for more remote trips, the possibility of carrying two sounds like a good idea; this could be two complete wheels or one complete wheel and a spare tyre, depending on the planned trip.

Spare wheel or wheels. (1 or 2, depending on the type of trip).
16″ x 6.5″ Mercedes aluminum rims with BF Goodrich A/T 235-70-R16 All-terrain tyres.

(see wheels and tyres for wheel info).

One or two spare wheels with wheel covers (just one cat’s eye cover doesn’t really work), depending on the planned trip, with wheel covers to suit.
An option to carry one spare rim and tyre, plus a round storage unit for a spare tyre and other things, is also under consideration. This would also use both cat’s eye covers and provide a considerable amount of storage.
